Blackrock Casino employees responded to the national call to give up 67 minutes of their time to “do good” in their community for Nelson Mandela Day on Monday the 18th of July 2011. But, true to form, the team went above and beyond, not limiting the time to just 67 minutes.
The idea behind Mandela Day is to inspire people to take action and help change the world for the better by giving up their time to do something good, and in doing so, motivate a wider movement for positive change.
Individuals and organisations are free to participate in Mandela Day as they wish. However, people are encouraged to adhere to the ethical framework of “service to one’s fellow human”.
In line with this, Blackrock Casino employees headed out to a children’s care centre, the Vulindlela Crèche and Pre school, at Madadeni. The team spent over four hours cleaning the centre’s walls and giving them a fresh coat of paint inside and outside.
