Car “fundis” will be thrilled to know that it’s come time for the annual Blackrock Car Show. This will be the 4th show and judging by how much it’s grown from year to year, 2011’s show promises to be the best yet.
According to the casino’s general manager, John McGregor, four convoys totalling 100 cars from around the country have already been confirmed excluding the local support.
This year’s competition is supported by Max My Ride magazine, which is bringing in about 80 cars for the show. Planet Electronics and Supersonic, car audio specialists will be sponsoring a complete Kicker car audio system as a prize for the website competition that runs in tandem to the car show. Yokohama Durban is sponsoring a set of 17” mag wheels as a prize, as part of the SPCA food sponsorship initiative.
There is still time to enter the country’s biggest and best-attended car show which takes place on Saturday the 1st of October 2011 in the casino parking area. Competitors pay R100 to enter their pride and joy. There are various categories:
This competition gives vehicle-owners a chance to test just how loud and proud their sound systems which will be judged by The International Auto Sound Challenge Association (IASCA).
This competition will follow the same format as the 2010 Show ‘n Shine. Vehicles are judged on appearance, cleanliness and modifications which will be judged by Supersonic & guest judges.
The winners in each category will receive a trophy, Blackrock Casino is urging the community to come and enjoy the day as well. There will be food stalls, a beer garden, children’s games and entertainment, DJs, music and dancers. Supporters don’t pay a cent to be part of the action.
“It really is an opportunity for an awesome fun-filled day out. We also encourage the public to enter the website competition in which a complete Kicker car audio system valued at R6 000 is up for grabs,” says John McGregor, general manager at Blackrock Casino and Entertainment Complex.

Keen to leverage the car show to benefit a worthy charity, Blackrock Casino is calling on the public to bring dog or cat food, for the Newcastle SPCA. Simply drop your donations into the SPCA donation box which will be stationed at the Club desk, and fill in the form provided. One lucky person will be rewarded for their good deed with a set of 17” Turn 1 rims valued at R4 000. The lucky draw will take place at the car show prize- giving ceremony.
